Hi Glitterbaby
Wow, I thought that David and Louisa had separated as I could find nothing of them being together in London. Did you go through Ancestry for this info as I have tried to find them but to no avail. Thank you for your help. Gill

Representation of the People Act 1918 - the consequences of World War I persuaded the government to expand the right to vote, not only for the many men who fought in the war who were disenfranchised, but also for the women who helped in the factories and elsewhere as part of the war effort. All men aged 21 and over were given the right to vote. Property restrictions for voting were lifted for men. Votes were given to 40% of women, with property restrictions and limited to those over 30 years old. This increased the electorate from 7.7 million to 21.4 million with women making up 8.5 million of the electorate. Seven percent of the electorate had more than one vote. The first election with this system was the United Kingdom general election, 1918

Representation of the People Act 1928 - this made women's voting rights equal with men, with voting possible at 21 with no property restrictions

Hi Gwyn in Kent
That would be great if you could look it up for me. Their address was Sunnyside Road, Sandgate and I know they were there in 1920.
Many thanks. Gill

I can check Sandgate lists for you soon hopefully....I'm not sure what years the books in the library cover, but they should be in Folkestone library.

Do you have any address in the Sandgate / Folkestone area?

...I am wondering if, being a female, she would be listed, but I can check.

Hi there
Yes, that is the fathers death but I cannot find anything to say he and Louisa are together. She seems to live in Sandgate and Bedford with Matilda and Percy and he in London till his death. Seems a bit of a mystery.
Thanks. Gill

Plus the 1921 census s unlikely ever to be online

Reggie was saying you would have to go to the main library for Sandgate to view electoral rolls but they aren't searchable by name you would need to know an address to do any look up

I am trying to find where Louisa Charlotte Nesbitt (b1866 Shanghai) and her daughter Matilda Nesbitt (b1892 Shanghai) were from 1918 to 1923. I know they were in Sandgate for a short time in 1920 but until I get to see the 1921 census I have no way of finding them. They had definately returned from China. Has anyone got access to these electoral rolls? Thanks in advance. Gill
