Hi Keith, you really need to follow up on Maddies' post, this should lead you in the correct direction. Every foundling child was given a number when admitted, this would have stayed with her and it should give you lots of information.

I had a good look about using her DOB, interestly I came across Florence Farrar/ Farrer who was born on the same date and then christened on 31st March to mother Sarah Ann Farrar....... Florence was born in the workhouse. I think I found her mothers marriage to Henry Bateman in 1894, looking on the 1901 Florence isn't with them...... More to the point she's not with Sarah Ann and her parents and siblings in 1891, nor can I find a birth registration. Maybe a wild herring but just thought I'd add in just in case.

All, thanks for your responses, very impressive.
Lydia Ransom was the name that she was given when she entered the Foundling Hospital.
I have also put her name as Helen Hall as my mother thinks that was her birth name but she isn't sure and I can't match that name up with any records for that area and date.
There is no mention of the Fathers name anywhere that I can find, her father was apparently, the son of the owner of a very large house where her mother worked as a servant, Lydia's mother wasn't married and after the birth was unable to support the child and so gave the child up to the Foundling Hospital.
I have been unable to find a Birth Certificate for her and the reference to her father on the Marriage Certificate is Foundling Child.
I haven't traced any admittance records for her, and wouldn't know where to look for them.
When she married Charles Clements there was indeed a double wedding as Thomas Clements married Lillian at the same venue and time.
Thanks for your advice.

Hi, when she was admitted to the foundling hospital she would have been renamed...... Have you managed to trace any admission records for her?

Patchem as also added the name Helen Hall, was this her birth name?

What name for her Father is showing on her marriage certificate or birth certificate?

You appear to have quite a bit of information on a foundling.

Highly unlikely that anyone on here will know her - have you looked to see if she is in anyone's tree?

Added:
You have her name as Lydia/Helen Ransom/Hall in your tree. When did she use which?
Thanks

Keith

I am trying to find information about my grandmother Lydia Clements nee Ransom.
Lydia was born in 1886 and died in 1968, she married Charles Clements 08/04/1912.
I believe she was born 15/03/1886 in Bethnal Green, but i am having difficulty finding her parents. I believe she was born out of wedlock and became a foundling child. After birth she was placed in the foundling hospital near Russell Sq in London and lived there until she was about 15 at which time she got a job in service in a solicitors home in Sidcup in Kent.
I'd appreciate any information if you know of this lady.
