Find Ancestors

Have hit a brick wall with father of John Coulter b @ 1862 - Stephen. Have found his marriage to Mary Mccann in Liverpool@ 1857 but unable to trace him on any census and cant find his death. Have found his wife and 2 children on 1871 census which declares Mary as a widow. There are also variants on the name - Colter, Coulton and Coulter. Does anyone have him in their family tree or any ideas?

yes this is the correct John Coulter b@ Liverpool 1862. John married Mary Ann Johnstone and his father is cited as Stephen on his marriage certificate 1887 but it does not state his father's occupation. John's sister Mary was born in 1858. The 1871 shows the Mary Ann (widow) and Mary b 1858 and John b 1862.

I think the one who married McCann is supposed to be STEPHEN.

27th January 1857 - Stephanum Coulton of New Bud Street (father Joannis Coulton) and Mariam McCain.

So, no occupation for father is given.

At St. Peter Priory, Liverpool there are baptisms for children of Stephen Coulton and Mary McCann:

So it looks as though the 1861 census that GlitterBaby posted above is the correct one, despite the fact that the father is Joseph!
