Hello Susan, do you have any clues as to who you think he may have married? Have you looked for a marriage on FreeBMD? http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

EDIT: Did he also have middle names Ernest T? If so, you'll find his marriage under the first name of Ernest in 1948 on FreeBMD.
