Just want to say thank you for so much help - so much information - and now I hope I can take things further - possibly find some relatives living today, descended from Charles and Agnes?

Thank you
Jean

As her name is given as Agnes Marion Gardner Hannay, then this is more likely to be her:-

1901 Scotland Census about Agnes M G Hannah
Name: Agnes M G Hannah
Age: 7
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1894
Relationship: Daur (Daughter)
Father's Name: Andrew Hannah
Mother's Name: Christina Hannah
Gender: Female
Where born: Helensburgh, Dumbartonshire
Registration number: 685/3
Registration District: Canongate
Civil Parish: Edinburgh Lady Yesters
County: Midlothian
Address: West Block 41 Waverley Bdgs
Occupation: Scholar
ED: 104
Household Schedule Number: 89
Line: 22
Roll: CSSCT1901_381
Household Members:
Name Age
Andrew Hannah 43 Where born: Edinr, Mid Lo (bootmaker)
Christina Hannah 43 born: spittalrigg, Haddingtonshire
John F Hannah 17 born: Glasgow, Lanarkshire
James A B Hannah 14 born: Edinr, Mid Lo
Margaret M E Hannah 11
Archibald T B Hannah 8
Agnes M G Hannah 7
Ellen H Hannah 3

Living in Edinburgh so a very good contender!

Also has a brother J.A.B. Hannay who would be the witness at her marriage so this does look to be her.

According to James' military records, he went on to marry a (looks like) Robina Fiddes, who is probably the other witness at her marriage.

So, it would seem she was born: Helensburgh, Dumbartonshire

There is this on ancestry, which may be her?

................but here again to view family in 1911 you will have to join scotlands people!

Catherine

Catherine Report 20 Aug 2013 09:48

Military record also states (on another page) :-

Next of Kin :- Wife Agnes
Address:- c/o Mrs Hannay, 71 Renfrew Street, Glasgow

Marriage:- Agnes Marion Gardner Hannay (Spinster)
Date:- 07/10/1918 - Which is same day and year as on other page, but not same year?
Witness:- J.A.B. Hannay and R. Fiddes

It is also marked - without leave S/A stopped 15/11/1917

So not sure what that would mean?

Scotlands people does show the birth of an Agnes Marion Hannay in 1894 but it is pay to view so you will need to join their site to have a look unfortunately.

Also states that he was educated at:-
Duke of York's Royal Military School
Royal Hibernian Military School
Queen Victoria School
Industrial School under Home Office or Local Government Board

which would explain how he met his wife!

So ancestry trees look to be incorrect.

Jean Report 19 Aug 2013 20:42

Charles Taylor was born in Stockton, Durham, England in 1893 - understand he married a scottish woman (sometime between the age of about 25 years upward)
and had two children (possibly twins) but the relationship failed - Charles moving to Middlesbrough, England.
CharlesTaylor's parents were Charles John Taylor and Emma Taylor (nee Love).
Unfortunately, I have no more info which could help.
Thought I may as well put this forward, in case there is a family with this background. One never knows!
