Finding them in 1851 or 1861 might give you more info as to where they were exactly born. There are several William Mellors born in Staffs. around 1808 and without knowing his town/village of birth it's hit and miss to know which is the right one.

Have you tracked them through the census records to see if a relative turned up who may give more clues to their parentage? It's not uncommon for elderly parents to live with their children.

Parish records then for marriages didnt record fathers names. This was only added to certs when official registration started in 1837

Have you tried looking for their births on the IGI

My great x3 grandmother, Mary Cartwright married William Mellor 19/9/1829 St, Mary Stafford. I have found this information via the IGI but it does not list their respective parents. I was wondering if anyone had managed to see an original of the parish entry and if they could tell me if it notes their parents? Any help appreciated. Thanks
