Yes, it seems that 1886 death date is correct, but the age is incorrect, as he would have been about 79. The 1902 Glasgow one would be his son Moses, as he was born in 1849, but the others are maybe a different branch of the family. |

Andrew, I am not seeing the family in 1871 but young Moses is around in 1891 and 1901. He is also a blacksmith. |

Yes its the same family, thanks for that - it's also more accurate with ages, which tie in with Moses' birth date of 1807 - I have found a birth record and his parents marriage record as well, so the line is gradually coming together |

This is the same family as you have found in 1841. Looks like they are still in Dollar in 1861 and father Moses has retired. |

No Glitter baby, that won't be her, as she sailed out to New Zealand in 1865, on the clipper ship 'Peter Denny' |

Yes, I had my doubts about the birth year, seems many of the immigrants 'fudged' their ages when they moved to NZ, there have been a lot of age differences show up in my research |

Reggie - I found a thread on Rootsweb with a transcription of deaths recorded in the Arrowtown (New Zealand) area 1876-1899, from a book in the local museum there. All the other data in the transcription checks out, so I have no reason to doubt the name given for her father |

Thanks - she married in New Zealand, so that isn't much use for Scotland enquiries - the marriage certificate is very limited and doesn't give name and place of parents. Still waiting on a copy of the death certificate to see if that can shed any more light, but I was just hoping someone might have some more ideas of how to track them in Scotland |

You need either family search or the parish records on Scotlandspeople which is not a subscription site. |

Trying to locate a birth record for a gg grandmother, Helen (Ellen) Ewing - apparently born in Glasgow around 1845-47, if her age at death is correct - and also any records of her father Moses Ewing, a blacksmith. I have found one record of him in the 1841 census, in Taylor Street, Glasgow, but nothing else conclusive. Any help would be much appreciated. |
