Yes, my family certainly didn't appear to let the roots grow under them, much to my frustration!
The information I have received from older relatives - all now deceased - was very sketchy and it appears that John & Bridget didn't speak much about their families. Mixed marriage of religion and social class so apparently both were outcast from respective families???
I'm hanging onto John's address in East Hamilton St, Greenock and have done search of this area; there were numerous John's born to Joseph's in the Inverclyde area but I feel without mums name, even narrowing down to D.O.B. I might be stuck as I don't want to connect to wrong tree?
Connection to Ireland; why Newry and how'd John end up in Derry and was the Joseph who was boarding in Belfast in 1901 census John's young brother and was William, the head of house, their uncle and would this mean that mums name could possibly be that of W'ms?????

I ran a check on Rootsireland.ie for John Hanna/Hannah b 1881 in Newry, Co Down
This site has 3 potential matches
None had a father named Joseph

Although Rootsireland does not hold fully comprehensive records, I tried widening the search to a birth anywhere in Ireland within 5yrs on 1881
Still no match for John with a father called Joseph
It's also interesting that the 1911 census states that John and Bridget's youngest child was born in Glasgow and the 2 older children were born in Derry

I'll be able to add D.O.B's to information; couldn't understand why they weren't on civil marriage cert' and nor was either mother?
I've managed to track down the Fox family as thankfully they had been living at 'Dark Lane, Derry' for 28yr so I was able to get loads of info.
The Hanna's have got me stumped as I can't match without mothers name but searching Greenock - Inverclyde records, there are a couple of Joseph's that could possibly match dad's D.O,B and would allow me to track more family info. This I'm having to base on an assumption that they originated from that area then returned back there from Ireland????

Hi could anyone help with information for John Hanna.
The information I have is that John was born in Newry, NI in yr 1880 and married Bridget Fox in Derry in January 1903. I have them on the 1911 census residing at Hollywell St, Derry. They had 3 children, Helen, Eliz' and James.
I gained a copy of the civil marriage cert' in which it lists Johns father as Joseph Hanna; at this time it also lists the fathers address as East Hamilton St' Greenock. I've searched to find the family but I'm struggling owing to missing mothers name. Also that they appear to have moved over to Scotland?
Joseph is occupation listed as 'Cartwright' and whilst trawling census for Joseph I found 1 in the 1903 census in a house belonging to 'William Glover', Ormeau, Down. Joseph of this address is also listed as 'Cartwright' but owing to his age (30), this couldn't be John's dad as John himself would be about 21yr. I'm considering the notion that this could be John's brother owing to the trade and as William is listed as 'Coach builder', is a relative?
