My grandmother-Kate Jacobs was born in 1863/4 at Stoke Dameral, Devonshire according to census records. I have been unable to trace her before her marriage in 1912 in Salcombe. I think somewhere I found a female with an unusual name which could well have been changed to Kate for ease of use -something like Katurtha Jacobs born in Morice Town, Devonport - I think it could possibly be the same person. Can anyone help me check this out?

I don't understand, you say she was born Stoke Dameral according to the census records but then you say you are unable to trace her before her marriage in 1912. So have you found her on census records?

Keturha Fanny Jacobs 1860 died 1908 in Warminster,so not the same lady.
Her parent were Silvannus and Mary Ann Jacob.

The only Hurrell births I can see with mother's maiden name Jacobs are in 1932 and 1952.

The Kate posted with parents Mark and Henrietta in 1871 was Catharine in 1881.
It looks as though this Catharine married in 1884 to Max Bishof Warder born @ 1858 died 1928.

Several PM's received. It seems Kate married William Hurrell later in life.

'No, I don't have her marriage cert - I know she was married to my grandfather at Holy Trinity C~hurch Salcombe in Aug.1912. But can only find one possible census for her which is for 1871 Plymouth - she was born in Stoke Dameral. '

You need her marriage cert really.
