Edward Brookes and Sarah Sambrook were in fact Joseph's parents, and therefore Horatios grandparetns.

Also, with regards to my earlier osting re the Brookes of Sedgley, it looks as if the link may be Edward above, who was born in Wolverhampton (1821) and lived there until 1851, and then lived in Sedgley 1861 and Lower Gornal 1871, before returning to Wolverhampton where he lived with his daughter Maud and her husband and died in 1896.

the Brooks was an extremely prolific family with large familie and a tendency to multiple marriages. Unfortunattely they all tended to cakk there children by the same names causing much confusion. So far I have only come across one Horatio. I have a deat tcert and await delivery of a birrth cert.

Thanks again

There's no Horatio Brooks/Brookes on the 81 census with parents Thomas & Sarah, only the one with Joseph & Mary.

There's this marriage for a Sarah Sambrook(es), but a lot earlier than Horatio's birth date, and if she married Mr Brookes, his name's Edward, not Thomas:

Where did your information come from, Tom?
Do you have any certificates to verify the names/dates?

The only one I can see had parents Joseph and Mary Ann.

I have a cconsiderable amount of info re this man but thee is a gap between 1891 and 1920

He was born in Wolverhampton in the 2nd quater of 1875, son of Joseph Brookes and Mary Ann Wiliams. He appears in the census for 1881 and 1891 living with his parents and sibs in Birmingham.

Then there is the gap until he reappears in Birmingham with entries in the electoral role at various addresses between 1920 and 1960. This was the year of his death and he died in Selly Oak Hospital, age 85. 28 Sept 1960. The death cert gives 87 Berrington Road as his address. the informat seems to be R Brookes of 134 Longmeadow Crescent Birmingham 34
