Dea I'm sorry I edited the post and said I had it wrong, silly me. You must of been searching while I was fixing it, sorry.

Kath, I don't have the marriage cert, we thought we might but can't find it anywhere. I'll have to get one ordered this week.

Thanks for your help, I see the marriage was west derby not toxteth. I haven't even got that right.... all over the place today.

Joseph Massey seems to be quite a common combination of names. If you buy the marriage certificate using the details Kath has found from:

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates

you will get Joseph's father's name. You will then stand a better chance of finding the correct Joseph in a census.

EDIT - I thought you had put the wrong name.

Do you have the marriage certificate which should give his father's name if he knew it? It would also tell you whether he was a bachelor or a widower. He seems quite old to be marrying for the first time so could be married in earlier census records.

Hi,

I'm trying to find information about Joseph Massey born in 1884 (i think). He was my great grandfather and married a May Fazakerley in 1921(?) Toxteth liverpool. They went on to have three sons Charles, Ronald and Joseph.

My problem is I can't find any details for him earlier than the marriage. No census, birth or death.

If anyone has details of him Or can point me in a different direction to search I would be grateful.
