William Lee was born abt 1797-1801 probably in Honiton, Devon he married in 1829 in Honiton to Elizabeth Tayler bn 1806 and they had six children, William 1830/1, Sarah Ann 1832, Susan 1833, Eliza Grace 1834, William number 2 1834/5 (even though wm 1 still alive) and Henry Richard 1836. William was a publican and kept the Carpenters Arms in Honiton 1841c. He died in 1850.
Also shown on that census are his parents, William Lee bn abt 1771 and Elizabeth nee Tozer bn abt 1776, they married in 1793 who were living in the Carpenters Arms Yard.
When William died in 1850 his wife left the pub and took up a butchers shop in the High Street where she and William Jnr age 19 are shown on the 1851c In 1859 William married Sara Elizabeth Teed and they moved up to London living in the Lambeth area.
Does anyone have any info on this family, the two William Lees may not have been born in Honiton but another local village, hopefully all the other info will give you a clue. Many thanks Lesley

Have you seen baptism entries for the children of William and Elizabeth to know address and occupation of William?

Have you seen banns of marriage for William and Elizabeth to see if William is 'of this parish' ?
It is usual for couples to marry in a bride's home parish, so that might give a clue if William was from elsewhere.

Thank you for this info, I did have all the childrens names and bpts but I did not know that throughout this time apart from 1833 his occupation was given as Butcher. In the '41c he is shown as a publican and after Wm's death his son is shown as a butcher so presumably they had the buisness going and the pub came later.
Still trying to track down his father William bn abt 1771 and wife Elizabeth Tozer/Toyes bn abt 1770 possibly in Exeter, they married 28.4.1793 Honiton.
no other children but William found so far.

Who were the witnesses to the 1793 marriage?
They might give leads to extended family.
