My Uncle was given the choice of being a bevan boy or army, he ended up doing both.

Although it wouldn't apply in Poppie's case, not all NS was performed in the armed services. Between 1943 & 1948, abt 10% of conscriptees did their NS working as coal miners - popularly known as Bevin Boys.

The records for National service are not online, still held by the authorities and not expected to be released until 1920.Edit it should be 2020

They can be applied for but only by the person themselves, or NOK.which has to be proven.
Use the link given by Stuart. to download the application forms. There is nothing specific for NS records, they are general records covering all Army records since 1926 ish to the present day

Just to add these records will cost £30-00 ish and can take 9months to obtain them

Hello everyone
I wonder if you can give me some information please regarding National Service Records, are they available to research. I’m checking for a friend he believes his dad Edward Henry Atkins served in 1953 possible Royal Army Ordnance Corps aged approx 19 years and served in Singapore.
