I think FMP (and maybe GR) has some records online, but I can't see them for free.

Hi Faye

I am unsure as to where you would obtain merchant navy records from but I would start with contacting the National Archives. They should be able to point you in the right direction. Here is their email address:-

Good luck with your search

This link might help to the National Archives

"What records can I see online?

The Central Indexed Register of Merchant Seamen (1918-1941)

Search and download registry cards of merchant seamen employed between 1918 and 1941 (BT 348, BT 349 and BT 350) on findmypast.co.uk (£). The originals are held by Southampton Archives.

For details of what sort of information the records may provide read the descriptions of BT 348, BT 349 and BT 350 in Discovery, our catalogue."

There are other links and details on the page.

If you'd like to give his name, we can look both on FMP and GR as they sometimes have the same records. At least it might give you a running start!
