One of my ancestors James Woodhams 1804-1893,
According to the Crowborough census of 1838 James worked for a Mrs Hewitt
at Lye Green,Sussex.
The interesting thing is James mother was Judith Hewitt could this Hewitt be a relation.
I have no more info on the Hewitts.
Any one any idea's ?

you'd need to follow the Hewitts, not the Woodhams, to determine the connection.

All I can say, is that it was very common to employ relatives ........ especially a wealthier person hiring a poor relation.
