I am trying to find out more information about my great great great grandfather, Thomas Peters who I understand was born in Cornwall in the early 1800s. He married Mary Harris and emigrated to Australia in 1847 on the ship, Theresa, I understand that he died in 1859 in Adelaide but I do not know much more than this His daughter, Elizabeth Peters, married my great great grandfather, Robert Malachy Serjeant and she died in Ballarat, Victoria in 1905.

What info are you hoping for?
If it relates to his time Australia, you'd do well to put 'Australia' in your title...to attract the attention of those members who are familiar with that country's records

Yes - Thomas Peter's wife was Mary Ann Harris. I understand they had five children - Jane, Elizabeth,Mary, Thomas and Josiah. Elizabeth is my great great grandmother but I was trying to establish what happened to the rest of the family. I believe they all emigrated to Australia.

Hi David
Do you have all the SERJEANT children? Elizabeth PETERS married Robert Malachy SERJEANT at Trinity Church, Adelaide SA in 1856 (reg 27/2); both were aged 27. He died in Ballarat in 1902 aged 73, son of Phil SERJEANT & Elizabeth MALACHY (reg 12315).
Mary Ann PETERS died in Victoria in 1864 aged 66, born Cornwall, daughter of Wm HARRIS (reg 126)
Thomas died in Victoria in 1859 (not SA), aged 56, b. Cornwall, shown as son of Benjamin and Jane, which I believe fits your info (reg 8064).

From www.familyhistorysa.info/colonists.html PETERS Jane, Elizabeth, Mary arrived 1847-05-03 on Theresa from London via Plymouth 01-19 PETERS Thomas, wife (d@sea or aft), 2 ch (inc Eliza Harris d aft arr?) arrived 1847-05-03 on Theresa from London via Plymouth 01-19
I think the assumption here (in the brackets as shown on the site) may be that this is the same Thomas who married an Elizabeth HARRIS in SA in Feb 1848, they had 3 children (Wm in Dec 1848, Thos in Aug 1850 and Elizabeth Frances in July 1852). But this seems unlikely, given that Mary Ann died in Victoria some years later. And son Thos would be too young I think for this to be him?
Death for daughter Eliza Harris PETERS, informant father Thomas PETERS, in 1848 in Adelaide. ???

Possible marriage for Jane PETERS in SA in 1851 to John VICTOR (reg 4/343). They had a son named John in 1852. They then moved to Ballarat, Victoria (so think this might be the right Jane!)
Chn born in Ballarat, Victoria: Arthur 1856, d. 1857 aged 7 months Bernard Arthur 1857 Albert 1864, d. 1864 aged 12 days
Possible death for John (b. Cornwall) in 1876 aged 45, parents unknown (reg 12505).
Was Thomas a sea captain??? From NLA Trove:
South Australian Register, Monday 13 October 1851 MARRIED. On the 9th inst., at Trinity Church, by special licence, by the Very Rev. Dean Farrell, Mr. John Victor, Adelaide, to Jane, eldest daughter of Capt Peters, of the same place.
Yes, just found Jane's death: she died in Ballarat in 1904, aged 78 as Jane VICTOR, daughter of Thomas and Mary HARRIS (reg 11210). She was buried at Ballarat Old Cemetery on 29th October. This makes her born c1826, good match for eldest daughter.

Is this the family you are looking at in 1841 census in Cornwall with Mary Ann as Maria?
Piece: HO107/150/6 Place: Pydar -Cornwall Enumeration District: 4 Civil Parish: Lanivet Ecclesiastical Parish: - Folio: 19 Page: 6 Address: Church Village
PETERS Thomas M 35 Copper Mine Agent Cornwall PETERS Maria F 40 Cornwall PETERS Jane F 14 Cornwall PETERS Elizabeth F 12 Cornwall PETERS Mary F 9 Cornwall PETERS Thomas M 7 Cornwall PETERS Eliza F 2 Cornwall
This would fit with the 3 older girls arriving in SA listed separately, as single women, while the other two children - Thomas & Eliza (is this Eliza Harris?) - are listed with thier parents...can't see Josiah though?
Children's ages are a good match. It also fits with Thos' wife being slightly older than he as shown in their deaths (remembering that adults ages were rounded to nearest 5 years in the 1841 census)
???

There were a couple of Thomas PETERS in Ballarat that could be the son. One was a draper and one a miner.
The miner died in 1857 aged 26 in an accident; his parents are not stated.
