I can't see a death for an Edwin Ryance in 1944.

Wilfred Holmes was the informant on Edwin Ryance death cert.who died 28th Dec.1944 in Heywood,Lancs. stating he was Edwins step-son,but I can not find any Rylance/Holmes marriages.Any ideas?
