I don't understand why William's surname is Humphrey when his mother is called Jane Jones and she is said to be unmarried. |

I am trying to find Williams birth cert. He is down on the 1871 census as the son of Jane Jones. He born in the parish of Llanllyfni Carnarvonshire Wales. After that I cannot trace him or his mother. I know welsh surnames are very difficult to unravel and would appreciate any help. Is it possible that he was illegitimate as he has not got the same surname as his mother? I have found a entry in the1881 census that might put him in Chorley Lancashire with a Francis Dolan and family. But I am not sure if this is the same person. |
