Nichola Report 1 Aug 2013 23:43

I was wondering if anybody can help me find my mystery of what happened to the above name.

Born 1881
Married 1908 to Lilian Richards
1911 census living together no family

1920 Lilian had first child = Henry born 1920 - father unknown
1922 Lilian had second child - william born 1922 - father unknown
1923 Lilian had third child - Bernard - I haven't got birth certificate but assume father unknown

As they were married David didnt accept parental responsibility so where was he.

I cannot find a death record or further marriage record.

Any further clues would be appreciated.

Are you certain they were still married? Could they have divorced?

Have you checked to see if he was a WW1 casualty

They may just have parted ways and not divorced

Thanks for your replies.

I haven't checked for divorce and cannot find his death in WW1. Strangely his wife Lilian remarried in 1937 and she stated herself as single. Not widowed not divorced.

I am trying to find a thread of evidence as to who the father of Lilian's children were, and by finding out what happened to David with provide further evidence that he wasn't the father.

Have you looked for baptism records of those sons?

These sometimes reveal a father's name which would not be permitted to be recorded on a child's birth certificate unless the father is present, if the couple were not married.

You could try school records for the lads too. These might record parents.

Is this Bernard's death?

Bernard Jobson
Birth Date: abt 1924
Date of Registration: Sep 1924
Age at Death: 0
Registration District: Aston
Inferred County: Warwickshire
Volume: 6d

Are you related to one of the other brothers?

Nichola

Nichola Report 4 Aug 2013 20:43

No haven't tried baptism records for them. Williams marriage certificate states father as Henry Jobson. I personally think their father was Henry McGeever, who their mother married alot later in life, and put his forename with their surname.

Thanks Patchem I had already found Bernards death.

I'm inclined to think that WW1 has something to do with this.

have you searched for his service records?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 5 Aug 2013 00:28

The possibility is that they separated, Lilian moved in with someone else, or had a liaison with another man ..................... and then she married after she had somehow heard that David had died.

This marrying very late is common when the marriage had just rboken up, and there had been no divorce.

Either that ................. or divorce had become easier to get in the late 1920s and 1930s.

But the former reason would explain why she said she was single.

If Henry and William are related to you and are still alive, have you asked them who they believed their fathers were, or their children as to who their grandfathers were?

All these people are possibly still alive.

Sorry for delay in repying. Thanks SylvialnCanada, I cannot find any service records and I agree with your thoughts.

Patchem Henry died in 1982 and William died in 1989. Williams son who is my father in law never knew anything about his grandfather and said his father never spoke of a father. Williams wife also said she never knew anything about his father.

Thanks all I just wish I could find evidence. :-|
