Thanks to all replies. As you can see the whereabouts in 1901 and 1911 are still a mystery.
I have found the birth cert. of Hugh Cullen, and he was indeed born in St. Helens in 1861. Yes he married Esther Leyland in 1888.
That baptism in 1891 was new to me, but it was their first child, Sarah.
To answer the first question: Yes, I'm descended from Mary Alice Cullen, born in 1892. She lived in Widnes all her married life. Her marriage cert. in 1919 gave father, Hugh, as deceased.
The death in 1893 of a Hugh Cullen gave an age of 24(out by 8 years), and a place of residence in Bootle. Not found a marriage or death for Esther.

Possible...age is a bit out....

NO rule this out as Patrick did marry Esther but place of births etc does not match and no children with them on 1901

Or a remarriage for Esther

Hugh and Esther Cullen, both born in St. Helens c.1867 are living in Bishop Auckland in 1891 with eldest child, Sarah.
Their daughter, Mary Alice was born in St. Helens in 1892, but I cannot find a trace of this family in the 1901 or 1911 census.

Any help out there would be appreciated.
