Hi everyone I'm looking for any information on my great granda David Hanna born in Belfast in 1905. He was born to a Rose Hanna but as soon as he was born he was placed in the Nazareth Lodge as an orphan. He moved to Donegal Town later on in life and married Margaret Glackin. Please if anyone has any information please contact me. Anything at all.

Thank you all so far for the help. In reply to one post, I do yes know his name, DOB and mother but I know nothing of his mother other than her name. I would love to learn of her - why she gave my great granda up for adoption and who her family was.

She would almost certainly have given him up because she simply couldn't keep him.
You have to realise how shameful it was to be an unmarried mother...........her family may have threatened to disown her, and without their support she would have had no chance of providing for him
Some girls in her circumstances were very lucky in that their parents took in the child - quite often passing it off as their own, to hide the shame.
