Please would someone look up the baptism of Charles Albert Taylor, baptised Folkestone in 1872. I am trying to find out if his parents were David Godden Taylor & Annie.

I have Charles Albert Taylor birth registered the last quarter of 1870 in Elham, he was born in Folkestone and was on the 1881 census age 10 with his parents. Nothing after that till a possible in 1911.

I have found a Charles Albert Taylor on the 1911 census as a Chief Petty Officer age 39 single, at the Royal Naval School of Gunnery The Royal Navy War Graves Roll transcript has him born 4 May 1871 Folkestone, married to a Francis L and died 25 Jan 1917. Hoping this is the same one as mine.

Many Thanks

There were no penalties for not registering births until 1875...................

Which Charles Taylor are you linked with?

How did you work back to him?

Who was the father of the one married to Frances? (From the marriage cert............)

The David Taylor named as father on the baptism had the occupation of Fly Driver.

Does that occupation match with either the 1881 you've found, or a previous record for David?

On the image of that 1872 baptism the father was a fly driver. Also baptised the same day was a sibling Catherine Amelia.

I think a fly is a very small carriage so a fly driver would fit occupation "carrier" as per that 1881.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 26 Jul 2013 22:39

As David is aged 34, Henry Taylor aged 20 although named as his son could be a step son.

If that is the case...possible marriage

Marriages Jun 1866 (>99%)
>>>GIBBON Susannah Elham 2a 1319 (Annie?)
Nutley Charlotte Elham 2a 1319
Page William Elham 2a 1319
>>>TAYLOR David Elham 2a 1319

So far no mention of a David >Godden< Taylor

Many Thanks.

I am hoping the two Charles Albert Taylor's are the same.
The Charles that comes in to my tree is only distant, his father David Godden Taylor was the brother of my great great grandmother. Through an old family diary dated between the 1870's & 1914, census records and baptism images I was able to work backwards. Then checking census records I found the children of siblings. Because of some of the children's middle names were past family surnames handed down this made it much easier.
David Godden Taylor shows on the 1881 census with 5 children & married to Annie but I have not found the marriage, I am guessing she died in 1882 and in 1884 he married Eveline and shows on the 1891 census with his wife Eveline, 2 children from his previous marriage and children from his 2nd marriage.

Yes he was a Fly Driver, and Catherine Amelia could well be the daughter Kate.

The 1901 census shows him as David Godden Taylor.

Yes David Godden Taylor born 1883 and Thomas Fuller Taylor born 1877 are his sons, David born to Eveline & Thomas born to his first wife Annie who could be Mary Ann.

Sorry - where did you get Mary Ann from?

Added - ignore that - it was from the baptism record.

In which case the query marriage to Susannah Gibbon is wrong.

Yes David married Eveline Margaret Smith in 1884, she died in 1908 and he died in 1935.

As Charles sister was baptised the same day I will take it that Mary Ann and Annie are the same person. Probably her name was Mary Ann but was called Annie/Ann and her death registered as Anne. My own grandmother was Emma but went under the name May and her death was registered as May.

Many thanks all of you.
