Edit: As per my previous edit this could be the wrong person as mother's name was wrong on his attestation papers.

Yes, he's definitely the fella I'm looking for. The address crossed out in his attestation papers is where his parents are living in 1911.
Must have divorced Florence!!!!!

Sorry for my edits, Joy, just another senior moment! I was looking at the spouses parents' names on that marriage record so thought his mother's name was wrong.
Curious though that his mother was named as next-of-kin and not his wife. Do you suppose she had died?

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/index-e.html http://data2.archives.ca/cef/gpc015/600063b.gif has back of attestation Search help links to: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/archivianet/020152_e.html Looking up 20th battalion gets a mess of stuff, including: http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/e/e039/e000960861.jpg http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/e/e039/e000960862.jpg http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/e/e039/e000960863.jpg http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/e/e039/e000960864.jpg http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/e/e039/e000960865.jpg http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/e/e039/e000960866.jpg
Reading these war diaries, it seems the battalion took quite a hammering in the attack - over 75% casualies, and typically, 25-30% of casualties were fatal.
The 20th battalion was one of 4 bns in the 4th brigade, which was one of 3 bdes in the 2nd Canadian Division, which was one of 4 divs in the Canadian Corps.
