Thank you MC that really is helpful. Does it mean anything if I can't locate her on census records in 1851 or 1861. Just wodnering what that means? Thank you so much for all your help. I'me now starting on the other side with the surname Pincott.

Hello Margaret, we seemed to hit lucky with some parish records on FindMyPast.

There is a summary transcription of Mary Jane's marriage to Moses Cardy on FamilySearch
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KCTP-KYW

Kentspear and variations such as Kentsbeer seem to have been around in Devon for a long while, but it is across the Channel from Brittany so who knows ........

Margaret Report 17 Jul 2013 00:05

Sorry realise it was through Moses Cordy Missed that bit!! Looks as if we may after all hail from Exeter rather than Brittany. Poor Mum she'll be disappointed though I have to say they still look Breton! Thank you for all your help. You've given me so much useful information about how to pursue this.

Hi Marie Celeste

I think you may have solved a problem baffling family. Particularly reference to Kentspear which is what my mum kept saying was her great grandmothers surname and she insists that she came from Brittany. Thankyou so much that really is very helpful. Can I ask how you came to put in that information? Seemed not quite to follow thread!

I think the surname on the image looks more like Canfer, but not finding any records under either variation.

Looks a possibility that the other Cardys on the 1871 might be family of her first husband?
