Hello Derek, it's unlikely anyone researching the family will stumble across your post.

Have you tried searching trees on here to see if anyone else has a connection?

My 5 x great grandfather was Levi Delamont ( aka Gillam ) of Hardington Mandeville. I cannot find his date or place of birth but do know that he married Grace Sibley on 17 June,1783 in Melbury Osmond in Dorset, where his surname was recorded as Gillam and that he died in HM in May, 1793. As many of the Delamonts were emigrants from France and plied their trade as weavers of sail cloth in Southern England, I suspect that the name Gillam was simply a corruption of Guillaume, the French equivalent of William.
I have knowledge of a whole raft of Delamonts living in HM in the 18th and 19th centuries but have been unable to connect my Levi to them.
I should be interested to hear from any GR members who are researching this family name or variants of it .
