William Henry was killed on board the ship "Bee" near Sydney, NSW on 6th January 1856. William's wife Mary (Emery) and children settled in the Kiama district of NSW where Mary's bothers lived.
Information about his birth, parents and siblings would be much appreciated. He is variously referred to as Capt. Henry, so I would also like to know what service this title relates to if known.
Shipping records show the family's origin as Co. Fermanagh in Northern Ireland.

Thank you, Lester

Hello Lester, welcome to the boards.

Do you have any idea when/where William and Mary may have married?

Did William's death happen en route to Australia, or were they already resident there?

NSW Shipping journals of January 1856 mention the arrival of the Bee:

6,Bee, ship, 1352 tons. Captain Raisbeck, from Liverpool September 12, with 434 government immigrants. R Allsop, surgeon superintendent.

So I guess the Henrys were included in the government immigrants. Nothing to suggest military.

Did Mary remarry? It would be quite a usual thing to do, being left a widow with a lot of children.

1797/1860 SINCLAIR GEORGE HENRY MARGARET MARY KIAMA

William Henry & Mary Emery married on 21st May, 1834 at Dromore, Co. Tyrone, the family was en route to settle in Australia having been sponsored by Mary’s brother James Emery when William was killed on the same day as the arrival of the “Bee” was recorded at Sydney.
Mary and her large family settled at “Primrose Hill”, Gerringong, NSW – she did not remarry, being supported by her family, the Emery’s at first.
I have not found any reports of William’s death in the newspapers of the time; A William Henry of Kirkudbright (B1814) was issued with a Master’s certificate in 1851, 1854 & again in 1857 the last time after “our” William’s demise.

Cheers, Lester
