Find Ancestors

Can anyone help me please? I am researching the Stobo family from around Barony, Glasgow. All seemed fairly straightforward until I notices the dates. The information from research is as follows:-

Peter Stobo was born in 1799 to James Stobo and Jean McAdam
Peter married Catherine Park in 1806 (aged 7)
Peter and Catherine had a son Robert in 1810 (Peter was aged 11 years)

Could Peter's birthdate have been mistranscrbed as a badly written 8 could be mistaken for a 9 or would it be more likely that it disguised the fact that Peter would have been born before his mother and father married.

I have seen the Parish records for Peter and Catherine but unfortunately they don't give ages and I assume James and Jean's would be the same.

If I ordered the record through Family Search would I get a transcript of the original document containing the date they give?

Does anyone know for certain when Peter was born? Thank you. :-(

Janet, the information on OPRs varied from parish to parish. It wasn't common for the age of the bride and groom to be recorded on the entries. Some entries may give a name for the fathers of the bride and groom.

How did you get back to Peter and his wife please? Did you get their names from son Robert's death registration 9assuming he died in Scotland after 1855)?

Is it not more likely that the Peter who married Catherine Park is the brother of James rather than the son?

The information you gave me checks with what I have although, Rootgatherer, I hadn't thought to take James Stobo further to see if he had a brother Peter. Will do that now. Peter was a blacksmith and somewhere in the back of my mind there was another Stobo who had Blacksmith skills but I discounted it. Will look again. Janet

Janet, if familysearch have transcribed the baptism record, the original image can be viewed and downloaded on scotlandspeople. Did Peter die after 1855?

Thanks Potty. Will try Scotlands People. I have his death as 1881 but that was attached to his birth as 1799. I'll do a double check on this.

Hi Rootgatherer. I checked your suggestion that Peter may have been James' brother but drew a blank. I had 2 possible sets of parents for James Stobo (William S and Jean Scott and John S and Elizabeth Maxwell). William's details were closer to the information I had. However, both had a James but neither had a Peter. Thanks again.
