Martha was born in Netheravon, Wiltshire, and was resident in Vernon's Dean, Hampshire, age 32, in the 1891 census. Head of the household was 36-yr-old Sydney Chandler (my maternal great grandfather) to whom she was purportedly married. I've found out from the Wiltshire records that in 1874 Martha (whose father was Worthy Cotterill -- the surname spelling varies) married Felix Leach. I was not at the Wiltshire & Swindon Family History Centre in Chippenham long enough to search further but I definitely could not find a burial for Felix. I'm wondering what happened to him and how the same Martha came to be married (or was she???) to Sydney Chandler with a 7-yr-old son Arthur (my grandfather) in 1891. Is anyone else following the Chandler side of my family and can help? Molly, Southampton |

Have you looked in Search/Search All Trees (Above right) to see if anyone on here has any Chandlers in their trees? |

Is this Martha, as age is incorrect compared with what you stated? |

If Felix dies in 1899 she can marry for this census in 1901, only Arthur is 19 and unlikely to be hers, but a previous wife's? |

I know there are heaps of Chandlers -- but I didn't know about Search/Search and can't locate it. (Maybe too old and I know I currently have "chemo-brain" but I'm determined it won't last). I'm so grateful for help. What happened was that I spent a long time on the earlier Chandlers then, at the last minute before I left Chippenham, decided to check on Martha because she was so recent, yet I didn't even know where she was born; it was lucky for me that it was in Netheravon, Wiltshire. The family did move into Hampshire, so I'm going to start searching here, too. If you have anything to add, I'd be very appreciative. Molly, Southampton, Hants |
