Emily Eliza was my grandmother who I can track until the 1911 census. After that she has disappeared. I can not identify a death with any certainty. Perhaps she re-married? I have 5 surnames that are of interest: Watkins in Hackney :Wheeler in Lewisham, Tenten in St. Pancras, Barry in Lewisham and Bridgen in Bethnal Green. Might Emily Eliza have married one of them?

Have you tried to rule out the other marriages for looking for births of the groom

Or looked to see if any children born to those marriages as I doubt at her age she would still be having kids

In 1918 Emily was living at 144, Court Hill Road, Lewisham (taken from London Electoral Registers)

This ties in with the address given by her son, Leonard, on his army enrolment in 1914

Leonard was my father. Soon after enrolment with the London Regiment he was found to be medically unfit for service. He died in 1952.
Question. That illustration on your report...is that Emily Eliza Ellis or just a 'period' photo? And are you possibly connected to the Ellis family?

Personal question, so feel free to ignore it - Did your father ever talk about his mother? Would he not have mentioned that she remarried?

I was born in 1935 at which time only one grandparent was still alive, although he died in 1936. I cannot recall any mention of grandparents at all and with WW2 round the corner I and a younger brother were evacuated three times - twice away from our parents. It was only some years later that I began to ask about family by which time, 1952, myfather had died. I have discovered a lot about his and my mother's background including the fact that my Ellis grandfather commited suicide.
Families 50 0r so years ago didn't talk about families and with two grown up children myself, four grandhchildren and four great grandchild I do my utmost to let them know about their family history before it's too late!
