According to the 1851 that Mike posted, Peter Lomas was a bird seller.

Disputed Identity - Peter Lomas, a dealer in birds, was brought up to undergo another examination before Mr. Maltby on a charge of having stolen a cloak from the residence of Mr. Squirrell, No. 47, Margaret-street, Cavendish-square.

The article is too long to transcribe in it's entirety but basically he was accused of stealing a shawl from the house of a woman who had been interested in one of his birds (but which she didn't buy). She had several witnesses who professed he was definitely at her house but Lomas also had several alibis who said he couldn't have been.

Can't find a later article to see what the outcome was.
