He marries Emily J Keighran in 1916 Paddington , NSW & dies in 1961 in Queensland.

That's the one! Her son was my Grandfather. Of course, South African records are very difficult to get hold of. So, I was hoping to find out when Thomas W Page entered Australia & if Janet was with him. I've got a feeling she didn't, but would really love to find out for sure!

What a sad story. Janet left a young son behind but soon after arriving in SA she realised she had made a mistake and 'was heartily sick of living on 17s a week.' She asked for her husband to take her back but divorce was granted in 1904.

Another article has her stating that she will be dead and buried by the time her ex husband received the letter. She was determined to die as she thought that was the only way she could atone for what she had done. Her death certificate was to be sent on to him. She sent a box with her bible, engagement ring and brooch to be given to her son. She was in Matabeleland when she sent a subsequent note asking him to 'send a wee note.'

Yes, that's her. She married James Pearce in 1895, and they are in Leith Edinburgh in 1901, with their son James.
Janet left with Thomas Page for South Africa in 1903.

Ok, this is not an easy one, but I would be really grateful for any ideas or pointers. I have Janet Young Black (Pearce is her married name) who ran off with Thomas Wallace Page to South Africa in 1903. ( details found from Newspaper archives on Genes - brilliant!) Anyway, she seems never to have been heard of after that date, but Thomas appears to marry in Queensland NSW in 1916 & died in 1961. ( I believe it is him, his parents names are the same as in Scottish 1901 census.) I'm trying to find out when he entered Australia, and whether he arrived alone. I know South African records are very difficult, so I'm leaving that till last! Any help at all would be appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation! Debbie.
