In 1841 there is a Mary Howorth with them aged 20 - I wonder is this was Alice's daughter (and Amelia's mother) born before marriage?

Would appear that Mary ( Amelia's mother ) and Alice ( Thomas's wife) could be sisters

I have a similar situation where a child is born out of wedlock, the mother marries someone else and then the real paternal grandparents take the child in.

Thomas married Alice Bentley in 1838
They had 2 sons James born 1827 married a Catherine ??????
Thomas 1830 - 1838.

On one census she is a daughter, on the other a grand-daughter.

I can find no trace of her birth or anything after 1861, nor can I work out her relationship to Thomas.

A fresh pair of eyes would be welcome
thank you
Maddie
