That's a possibility, will check the electro records later. It's so annoying, I know he had a brother, and maybe it was Morris after all. On his grave stone when abraham died, it had missed by brother but did not put the name down. Regards Pauline :-)

I wondered that too, Dea. Perhaps he anglicised his first name for a while?

Well, as that is the only mention anywhere of 'Alfred', I just wonder if it was, in fact, 'Abraham' and either they got his name wrong or he called himself 'Alfred' at the time ??
Alfred is not on any census and there are no birth, deaths or marriages for him, or any travel records that I can see.

Hello Pauline - is this the entry that you're referring to?
UK, City and County Directories, 1766 - 1946 Name: Alfred Modlin Street Address: 13 Three Oak la Horsleydown Occupation: Hairdrssr Publication Title: 1921 Hughes' Business Directory County: London Country: England Publication Year: 1921
It's possible that's where the salon is and not where he actually lived.
EDIT: Just looked at that address on the 1911. An Ernst Schmidt and family lived there. He was a hairdresser and it's noted he worked at home. The enumerators list has it as a shop as opposed to a private house so perhaps there was an apartment above.

Unfortunately nothing, all I know he lived at 13 Oak lane, bermondsey, SE1 in 1921, worked as a hairdresser and lived there. I found a advert on the archives with this information.
Abraham lived at the same address and worked as an hairdresser there in 1934 round abouts.
That's how I got the connection from.
Regards Pauline

Pauline has confirmed via pm that 'her' Abraham is the one I posted on the 1911, born in Poland. - Not the one with the father, Morris.
Pauline,
You say you are trying to link him with Alfred - can you tell us what you know about Alfred please?

Thanks everyone for responding, this is the trouble and brick wall I have came across As you can see there were 3 families with the same names, roundabout the same time. I personally feel they were all connected, but cannot find a link. I am hoping someone from either families recognise the information I have wrote. One of the families went to America, one family was mine, and the other still in this country. Regards Pauline :-)

Argyllgran - In answer to your question - the one who travelled to New York in 1911 was the one with father named Morris. He was a Tailor's machinist.

In 1891, his father is Morris. (An Ancestry user has corrected spelling to Modlin.)
1911 above says Abraham born Poland. 1891 says born Whitechapel. Is this the same person?:

Hi there Looking for information about my gr grandfathers family modlin sometimes used as modlyn. I know about his children ect, but trying to find out about his brother who I believe to be Alfred modlin. The name Morris was once mentioned but I am not sure. they were both Hairdressers. any tiny, small , information I would be happy with. I have been searching for a long time. Abraham was born roundabout 1888 so Alfred must be same, lived in east London, se1 south London and north London. Regards pauline :-)
