Hi Pauline, you've got it right - welcome to the boards.

There are a number of trees on ancestry but none of them have his parents or birth for him I'm afraid. Nor do the have the family on the 2 census where they are going under the name or Smith.

I can't find anything on ancestry, roots ireland or familysearch either sorry.

The only Ireland census available online is 1901/1911 - I've just had a look but there is no Napoleon's showing up on either (searching on Nap* because of spelling variations) Just though, it is an unusual name and if he was from Ireland there may have been other parts of the family there, but nothing.

I would be tempted to buy the marriage certificate to see what details you can get for his father. Not sure there is any other way, as no-one so far has come up with anything.

If you do, make sure you order from GRO, cost £9.25, other commercial sites charge more.

Thank you Pam for all your help it is very good of you.. I have all the information you sent , and most of the BMD cents . I have put requests in a Irish newspaper and Irish radio but still no luck the only info I found was the death of Ellen Napoleon but there was no age or any other info she could have been a child or an old lady. One of my Grandad( Francis Napoleon) sisters went to NZ and I have made contact with her granddaughter. But she does not know anymore than me..

Ah well maybe one day I will know the answers I am no spring chicken so time is running out.
