John William Hurley -born abt 1886 and died 1938 in Derby.
Can anyone tell me more about this man ?

Is this all you know about him? His birth should be on here or on freebmd and his birth cert will give you his parents' names to help trace him on the census. How have you got back to him?

Yes, Reggie, an Ancestry tree. According to it she married three times, Hurley was the second marriage but she married in 1939 using her first married name (freebmd); first husband did not die until 1946 (according to the tree)

Hi Reggie
I am "probably" Mr Hurleys grandson, on my mothers side. All I have for him is a death cert , 1938 (Derby) and age of 56 at death - 1882 birth. There are several Hurleys I have looked into but I cannot be sure who, if any, are the one I am looking for.
Hence my rather undetailed, "can anyone tell me anything". The only other thing I know is that he worked as a railway guard at the time of his death and lived as a "lodger" in my grandmothers house.

The tree you guys refer to is probably mine, Gary Tyson.
I don't think there was a marriage. I have never found one.

Use freebmd to look for a possible birth..

Does your mother's birth cert name him as her father?

The birth certificate features another guy sadly. He is the one who died in 1946 Harry Hampton( prof football). He is the guy I always thought was my grandfather, apparently not !
