Can't find a birth certificate registered

Hi There,

Any tips to find a birth certificate? I have searched on the name I have. I have his date and year of birth and a middle name and nothing is coming up. I found his death certificate no problem at all but I am beginning to wonder whether he was actually registered under that name now. I have tried using his middle name as a last name also. Any other ideas would be hugely appreciated as its starting to beat me a little now.

Thanks - Heather. :-| :-0

I don't know for certain his parents names, which is why I need his birth certificate but I have tried checking census and still nothing although it wouldn't bring him up as he was born after 1911.

Who is it you are looking for? Could he have been born before his parent's marriage and therefore registered in his mother's maiden name? His age on the death certificate could be wrong as it depends on how well the person registering the death knew him.

Was he definitely born in England/ Wales ?

Any chance he could have been adopted ?

Or maybe his mother re-married and he was then known by a different surname

Hi There. Thankyou for all your responses. He was my papa. Problem is I know nothing about his parents. I've been told he was born in Scotland, but as nothing showed up, I tried the rest of the UK. John McGinn Boyd. Said to be born June 8th 1914 and died in Leicester Central 21 Feb 1978. I've tried his second name as McGinn too, just incase that was his mother's maiden name. Nothing! He was born in Dalry, Ayrshire. Closest hospital would have been Irvine, Ayrshire. I'm trying everything. Families back then didn't seem to communicate with each other unfortunately. :-\

Have you got his marriage certificate for the name of his Father?

Added:
A member on here has a John Boyd from Dalry, Ayrshire, but born 1913. Worth trying to contact her?
Someone could have been one year out with the death registration.

This is the birth reference

587/00 0086

You need to order it from Scotland's People - it's not available to view online

Whoops sorry Jude I am on Google chrome and didnt reload the page so missed your posting .

I was called away downstairs by OH who couldnt operate the remote . was getting his knickers in a twist . Typical he presses buttons all over the place in the hope one will do what he wants and then locks it up and he cant work out to get out of it .

I carried on regardless when I got back to the PC :-S

Yeah Shirls - Google Chrome's a pain like that isn't it! I have a whole host of Scottish rellies so bought some credits and used one of them!!!!!

Thankyou both for your input there, that is very kind? How did you manage to find the record can I ask? I have been checking Ancestory and FindMyPast and nothing was brought up? So strange, going to get that sorted just now.

The marriage certificate was another problem as my papa and nana never married. Finally I will contact that person on here that has the John Boyd listed in Dalry. Thankyou all for your input. Extremely helpful bunch of people! You really didnt have to use one of your credits, however thankyou! Its hugely appreciated. :-)

Kind Regards

You will not find Scottish bmd's on Ancestry FMP or Genes you have to use Scotlandspeople as mentioned

The other sites only carry the transcribed census's up to 1901

Can I just check. If I have the reference, where can I buy the birth certificate online? Or would I need to buy 30 credits from Scotlands People and then purchase the certificate from the same site?

Kind Regards

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 7 Jun 2013 20:16

Heather. You need to purchase 30 credits .cost £7 it will take one credit to view the ref as I posted. It
You can't view the birth record online its just a bit too late as they operate the 100 year rule. But against the ref there is a box to order the cert through them . It will cost you £10

You may find the other units can be used if his parents were Scottish too, and for 5 units you can view the actual marriage record and download it so much cheaper than GRO cost for a cert
