There's also an article in 1939 about his youngest son Ronald studying and being called to the Bar, but it was unlikely he would practice.

ADDED:

There is also this in a list of Receiving Orders in Bankruptcy, dated March 1895

Sadly, this death notice doesn't give any funeral details:

I am looking for death and burial place of John Edward Birt born 1863 in Dymock Gloucestershire .Wife m-I-l and on daughter all share a grave in Prestbury Gloucestershire though no sign of John even in graveyard plot.Wife was Sarah Louise Thompson and daughter Eunice is it possible John is buried with wife but name not recorded.Thank you for any help you are able to give
