From a tree on Ancestry......

"Giles Edmunds was a member of the 11th Battalion of the 15th. He was actually discharged from the 11th Battalion of the 15th Light Dragoons at the age of 31 in 1814, a year before Waterloo. He took part in the earlier Peninsular War in 1808 under Sir John Moore and the Military General Service Medal with the clasp of the battle of Sahagun (Northern Spain)."

"As told by Johanna Brown and verified with findmypast where he is listed on various army rolls and also have a copy of his pension records from the National Archives."

I found the records re the above info........

Thank you to all who posted thus far. This is still all kinda new to me. Some things I find easily, other I just seem to go around in circles. I'm sure there are other places to look that I just don't know - makes me all the more appreciative of your help.

Cheers

Giles Edmunds was born in Highworth, Wiltshire (according to census records) around 1783.and died in Woodbridge, Suffolk, in 1865. Consensus amongst numerous family trees has his parents named as Giles Edmunds (born circa 1761 in Highworth) and Jane Waldron born circa 1764. None of these trees seem able to verify this and I can find no record anywhere of these parents...

Is anyone able to help...?
