Hi Patricia,

Thanks for adding that for Roger. The Webb Foundation at Crewe info is on the thread I'm going to nudge up in about 2 hours time for him.

Somebody posted it in 2009, the thread started in November 2008

Railway 'children' were also taken to Webb House, Crewe from all over.

Although it had long stopped being used as an orphanage, and was used to train signallers and other railway staff. I went there in about 1989 for part of my training. As the only female staying over night they would not allow me to stay in the main building with the guys, I had to go into the old Matrons cottage at the side!

I see it is now for sale......

Hi Erinobragh

It was a good shot!! Railwaymen's children from all over England were cared for at Derby.

I have examined their Records at Matlock Archives and they are meticulous. Every attempt was made and recorded to keep siblings in contact with each other, for example when there were several children and they couldn't all be taken in by relatives.

Hi Roger

In 2008 I "posted" on a thread started by someone else who was also looking for Railway Orphanage info. My contribution was regarding the Derby one that Erinobragh has told you.

Some other people posted a little bit of info that may also help you. As you are probably in bed in NZ by now, will nudge up the thread later today for you.

Hi Ering,
Thank you. I will check and post findings.
They, the two children in the Railway Home, must have returned to Hull eventually as they lived out their lives there. Kind regards, Roger

Roger...It may have been "The Railway Servants Orphanage" which was actually in Derby but check it out on a search engine....as there may have been one also in Hull by the 1920s....The one in Derby certainly had children residing there who were born in Hull

My Mum and her four siblings were orphaned when first her mother died giving birth to the youngest and two years later as a result of an accident their Father was drowned in the docks. Mum and one Brother went into Banardos and according to Barnados records two other went into homes for the children of Railway Workers in Hull. However the record does not give the name and in my searches from here in New Zealand I can find nothing. Can anybody help with this information which would be from around the mid 1920's. Thank you, Roger
