Atkinsons (and Dents) of Merrington, Co Durham

I am trying to find out more information about the Atkinson and Dent farming families of Merrington, Co Durham.

My great-great-grandfather was Robert Falconer Atkinson (b. 1863). His father was Robert Atkinson (born Merrington, Durham 1805, Farmer of 213 Acres. I believe he farmed Break House Bank farm in Eryholme). His grandfather was Thomas Atkinson (b. Merrington 1775) who married Anne Dent (b. about 1776).

I am in New Zealand so unfortunately cannot visit the local church etc for records going further back. Would love to know anything about the families, especially if anyone has traced them further back.
