If I got the right Annie she went on to marry my great grandfather robert browning in Hackney in 1888 on the marriage cert her farthers down as Thomas wicks
and the children's farther as robert wicks and Annie down as formerly mason.
How can she be born a Wicks then a Mason then Wicks when she married my great g dad . And be down as a spinster ????.

Info from a tree so needs verifying

Annie Mason married Robert Wicks and had 3 children.

She then married Robert Browning in 1888
and had 2 more children.

------------------------------------------

It may be a case of "spinster" being an error or a lie.

My own Gt grandmother married as a spinster when she had been married several years and had simply up sticks and left her husband and re-married .

Happened more than you think as divorce was far too expensive and no checks made

In 1891 and 1901, daughter Elizabeth born 1874 is down as Elizabeth Browning, though she was born Wicks.

A similar situation may have been Annie's case, born with one name, raised with another.

How did you find that tree Mike sounds like the right one. I on Elizabeth was born a wicks in the 1911 census she's down as a wicks . Could she have been born a wicks then married a Mason then for he to die then marry a cousin.?.
Confused . Com.
