David Report 12 May 2013 14:48

Could someone please look in 1891 Census for Louisa Smith, her father Thomas Smith & (as yet unknown) family. Was she in Inkerman Road, Kentish Town?

She married George Harvey on 17th August 1891. Her address was given as 33 Inkerman Road, Kentish Town, London (parish record). Her age is 20 years and her father is Thomas Smith, a plumber.

I have her in Censuses after the marriage but nothing before it, and nothing for her father & family.

Thank you in advance
David

So, looks like Thomas Smith and Ann Hinson weren't married - and their older children christened with Hinson as a middle name. Another one for eg.

Thomas George Henson Smith
Record Type: Baptism
Baptism Date: 9 Jul 1859
Father's Name: Thomas Smith
Mother's Name: Ann Elizabeth Smith
Parish or Poor Law Union: St Pancras
Borough: Camden
Register Type: Parish Registers

Wonder if Thomas Smith had been married before, so they couldn't marry??

Added, John Wash didn't last long though!

Hi David

Did any of Louisa's family show up on the census records you have found after her marriage - just to confirm or throw out the ideas posted above by Choccy & me?

Flip

Flip Report 12 May 2013 16:45

Actually, I think this clinches it:

Drusilla Henson Smith
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1873
Age: 21
Spouse Name: William Edward Sherriff
Spouse Age: 26
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 20 Oct 1894
Parish: Kentish Town St John the Baptist
Borough: Camden
Father Name: Thomas George Smith
Spouse Father Name: William Sherriff
Register Type: Parish Register

Both witnesses were her siblings, including Louisa Hinson Harvey!!
The other witness was Herbert Hinson Smith, and her father was a plumber.

No. Unless they are nearby and I have missed them.

1901 Census
Louisa and George & family are at 85 Islip St, Kentish Town
They were there in 20 Oct1895 when second child was baptised.

1911 Census
Louisa is in Finedon, Northamptonshire (family home)
George was in Horsey Lane Farm, Longdon, Staffordshire, with his brother - presumably constructing a building (both are carpenters)

I know that they lived in Bedford for some time - 2 yougest children (1906 &1909) were registered there

Hi David

I think the birth and census info posted for Louisa is correct for your Louisa - especially after finding her as a witness on Drusilla's marriage as Louisa Hinson Harvey. The image shows Drusilla's middle name is Hinson, not Henson as transcribed.

Thnk you all for your help. It is much appreciated. A way through an apparent brick wall!

This was my first request for help and I am pleasantly surprised by the speed of responses.

You're welcome, we all like to help if we can. Come back to your thread if you need any more help with her family.

One thing, neither Drusilla or Louisa recorded their father as deceased when they married - although they may not have been asked the question. However, that means he may have still been around, although not with their mother.

Good luck, Smiths are dreadful to trace ;-)
