psmuskoka Report 12 May 2013 02:29

Good evng all I am looking for a record of death for Elizabeth Wraight nee Wetherell b 1772 at Selling Kent, married Thomas Wraight at Blean Kent 10 Oct 1785, I would like to order her GRO record of death but found two records that could possibly be her. The first is Elizabeth Wraight at Faversham 1852 Jun qtr 2a 319 or 372 some confusion here over the page #, the other is for 1855 at Hernhill Jun qtr , I could of course order both from gro but thought that perhaps someone might be able to figure it out some other way, on the 1851 census her son James was living in Hernhill so I think it quite possible she would be nearby, her husband Thomas died in 1829. I live in Canada so am not familiar with the distance involved between Faversham, Hernhill, Blean etc but a lot of Wraight,s from my ancestry did live in the Hernhill area.
I do appreciate any help you can give, thank you
Peter Wraight

I wouldn't like to say which one - both are on the 1851 census and are of a similar age, one a widow the other with husband James. I assume this one is the one you are interested in?

Both deaths are reg in Faversham, the 1852 death has been mistranscribed (entered twice by using place & reference for the line above). The correct GRO is 2a 319.

Hopefully someone with access to Kent burial records may be help, as they were in different parishes - although fairly close.

Hi Fredk,

The death age was not recorded until the late 1860s so all the ones prior to this that you find on GR will show age as 0, no matter what their age.

Hi Peter,

Before you shell out some money, a suggestion - change your title to include Kent Burial, see if that finds a member who has access to the burial records for Kent, or the National Burial Index.

That way you could give it a day or so, and maybe save some money as both deaths would fit from what I've looked at.

If you are not familiar with the distances between Faversham, Hernhill, Blean, etc, then use google maps to plot the places for you.
I usually have it permanently open so I can do quick look-ups to see if little villages are where I think they are.
It is very useful when you are told places are in different counties, but, in fact, are close together because they are near the borders.
