Try the National Archives site. His Army records may have survived as he came out of the Army

Age a little out but birthplace correct:

British Army Service Records 1760-1915 Transcription

First name(s): Charles
Last name: HALL
Calculated year of birth: 1835
Parish of birth: Croxton
Town of birth: Cambridge
County of birth: Cambridgeshire
Age at attestation: 19 years
Attestation date: 29 May 1854
Attestation corps:
Attestation soldier number:
Discharge rank: Corporal
Discharge corps: Grenadier Guards
Discharge soldier number: 7050
The National Archives reference: WO97 / 1367 / 157

Think it's the right chap - he was a labourer when he enlisted. Discharged medically unfit due to bad bronchitis so seems to tie in.

Will send pages by pm to Helen.

Not sure it is easy to find Crimean records...I had an ancestor's husband who died in Scutari - there are no military records but I found a website which was newspaper records of deaths.

So as Charles obviously survived - if he was in the Crimean - I'm not sure there are any records to be found

Medal Rolls for the Crimean Medal are on Ancestry. Can't see a Charles Hall of Grenadier Guards on it, though.

There may well be Muster Rolls for his Regiment at the National Archives- not online though. You'd have to go there or get someone to go for you.

As the Guards Regiments keep a lot of their own records, there might be something at Wellington Barracks. Here are the contact details
