When finding my way around F.Search I found my 4x Gt G.Father was a Chelsea Pensioner. I looked on Gene,s Military but couldn't find him. Can anyone help me please.

Thomas Cole christened 27/8/1780 born in West Worlington Devon.
On 1851 census it was written as West Worthington, Then living in Bristol.

He married on 21/1/1812 in Alverstoke Hampshire.

I found one with same birth date but he was born in Totnes Devon.

Many thanks

His records should be on FindMy past. What did the Family search record say? Did it give the correct birthplace and did it give a reference?

BarbinSGlos

BarbinSGlos Report 5 May 2013 22:32

No it just came up when I was choosing all the options under his name. I then looked up Military on Genes but he wasn't on it.

I am only on GR and just wanted to be pointed in the right direction. I know its gonna cost me but hey ho I want to know the details.

So if it didn't give the birthplace, how do you know it was for the right man?

The record on family search linked straight through to this record on FMP.

Name:Thomas COLE
Year of birth:1780
Place of birth:Totnes, Devon
Regiment:Royal Horse Artillery

Previously a shoe maker Birthplace given as Totnes Devon. Discharge on account of loss of an eye. Enlisted in 1800.

Not sure if he's your guy.

Will try and pm you the two images from FMP.

EDIT: Have sent you the two images. Note on paper to say that his discharge papers were lost and that these are copies of documents held at the Corps headquarters.

As I said, not sure if he's your chap, but he is the one that the Familysearch record refers to, as it linked straight through.

SECOND EDIT: I see you've discounted this one, born Totnes, but it is the one the family search result was referring to, as I said, it linked straight through to the image on FMP, I didn't have to search for it.

So maybe your Thomas Cole wasn't a Chelsea Pensioner after all?

Hi Kucinta

I have googled "D" Troop and it makes fascinating reading.

I see there are a couple of other Thomas,s born in Totnes so I may be on the totally wrong track, but will persevere with it.

For now thanks so much for your time
