George...1911 Census.
John obviously married Mary Daly after the Census...the date of your fathers birth should give an indication of when...
Residents of a house 4.1 in Masterson's Lane (Fitzwilliam, Dublin) McGuinness James 50 Male Head of Family Roman Catholic General Labourer - Married - 32 8 8 McGuinness Catherine 50 Female Wife Roman Catholic McGuinness Christopher 31 Male Son Roman Catholic Poulterer Married - - - - McGuinness James 28 Male Son Roman Catholic Drapers Porter - Married - - - - **McGuinness John 23 **Male Son Roman Catholic Dublin City Grocers Porter Single - - - - McGuinness William 19 Male Son Roman Catholic Dublin City Messenger Single - - - - McGuinness Catherine 26 Female Daughter Roman Catholic Laundress - Married - 3 - - McGuinness Mary 16 Female Daughter Roman Catholic General Domestic Servant - Single - - - - McGuinness Margaret 8 Female Daughter Roman Catholic Dublin City Scholar Cannot Read - Single - - - - McGuinness Easter 5 Female Daughter Roman Catholic
I think Catherine (26) should read Daughter in Law from what I can work out from original
Does the above help at all...?

This is the marriage of the sponsors of Christopher....
Husband Wife Name CHRISTOPHER MC GUINESS and ESTHER EUSTACE Address 46 BRIDE ST ............................ 80 COOMBE Occupation N/R N/R Father CHRISTOPHER MC GUINESS ...... MICH EUSTACE Mother MARY .......................................... JANE
It is possible the above Christopher was brother to James in which case father was named Christopher and that would follow given James named his eldest son Christopher if he followed the tradition Irish naming pattern.

George...Whats confusing you..I'll see if I can help further..
If your father was born Masterson's Lane then both the 1901/1911 show the only McGuiness family living there at the time....
Your father born 1911 was son of John McGuiness and Mary Daly.... John (23) is listed 1911 as being single living with parents James and Kate. John (18) was in Mountjoy 1907.He gives his address as per Census also place of birth as Charlemont Row as per address at Baptism John was Baptised 1888 as "John Joseph" son of James McGuiness and Kate Lennon.

Hi Thanks for trying clarify my father was the son of John Mcguinness and Mary Daly her middle name was Teresa, John was listed as living at home as they did not marry until 10th April 1911 possibly just after the census. In 1907 he could have been in jail as there was family conflict due to the association of John and Mary Mastersons lane was small terrace of houses off Charlemont Row, my fatherwas baptised after his father John Joseph. It seems that all is coming clear now I need to start on James and Catherines (Kate) Parents. Thank you so much for you help I may take another visit to Dublin.
