Hi, I’m looking for info on Hannah Cope (nee Elks), my great great grandmother.
She was born in Alton around 1821 (age is fairly consistent throughout other than on the 1881 census) and married Thomas Cope in Cheadle in 1845. She was living in Hanley in 1851 (with Thomas and 2 children) and still in Hanley in 1861, though a widow with 4 children (Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Thomas Augustine and William Bernard who is only 2 months old). Her father Paul was living with them. Her husband, Thomas, had died in late 1860 / early 1861 (waiting for certificate).
In 1871 and 1881 Hannah was living with her daughter Elizabeth (now Mrs Louis Murray) and family in Charles Street, Hanley.
But I can’t find her after that (census, re-marriage or death), and would be really grateful for help.
Many thanks.
Deirdre

Well, there are only 3 possible deaths in Staffs as far as I can see - I don't think she had a middle name did she?
Name: Hannah Cope Birth: abt 1820 Death: Jul 1891 - Tamworth, Staffordshire
Name: Hannah Cope Birth: abt 1821 Death: Apr 1896 - Leek, Staffordshire
Name: Hannah Elizabeth Cope Birth: abt 1822 Death: Jul 1903 - Stoke upon Trent, Staffordshire

Did wonder about this, though it def says Pope on image so would have to have been an error by the enumerator:
EDIT no, Hannah Pope is elsewhere! Will leave to prevent others making the same error.
1891 England Census Name: Hannah Pope Age: 68 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1823 Relation: Mother-in-law Gender: Female Where born: Hanley, Staffordshire, England Civil parish: Wolstanton Ecclesiastical parish: Christchurch Town: Tunstall County/Island: Staffordshire Registration district: Wolstanton Sub-registration district: Tunstall

Thanks both,
Hi Shirley, yes that's the family. Sorry I did put Hanley, Staffs in the title originally but it was too long!
Brummiejan - as far as I know she's didn't have a middle name; the Hannah Eliz one could presumably be in Hanley as it's Stoke on Trent, but where was she in 1891 and 1901? The others would suggest she was out of the area she'd lived in most of her life, which seems strange.
Apart from daughter Elizabeth, I've not found anything about Mary Ann, William died at a few months and Thomas (my great grandfather) moved to Yorkshire then Cardiff, and Hannah wasn't with them.
