You will not be able to view any of the information re BDM's on-line on ScotlandsPeople as the certificates can only be viewed online for birth up until 1912 marriages till 1937 and deaths 1962.....it is possible to order the certificates through the web site but this will cost £12 each.
Do you know if your friends father had older siblings whose certificates could be viewed?

The tree is on Ancestry but there are no parents listed.

Looks like you'll need his marriage certificate to get further back

Thanks Mike, this is definitely him all those details are right. I searched the trees but couldn't find him, how did you find him ?

Patchem & Shirley, haven't looked on Scotland's people yet, that's next on list! Only looked on Family search & tried freebmd then realised freebmd didn't cover Scotland.

Have you looked on Scotlands People website . thats where his birth will be / It wont be on FreeBMD or other sites as they dont cover Scottish BMD,s

A friend of mine has asked me to help with her family tree. Her father William John Cochrane Brown was born 7/11/1915 & she presumes in Glasgow. The problem is we can't find any record of his birth so we can start to get further back. Does anyone out there have any ideas please?
