I'm hoping somebody may be able to help. I am trying to trace marriage records to Muriel Freda Schofield (Schofield being her maiden name), born 1920, who was the natural mother to my late Uncle John Preece. As she was unmarried at the time, she gave my uncle up for adoption when he was 6 months old in 1941. My great-grandparents George and Helena Preece were his adoptive parents. Any help would be appreciated. |

Have you looked for siblings? There seem to be 2 possible brothers. If you can track down descendants they might have more information. |

This is from a tree on ancestry. Only 2 children are mentioned and 1 is still living. |

This is from 192.com. Same area of Birmingham as Fred and Henrietta's marriage. |

Many thanks for your help Jan. I had heard that Muriel was originally from either Yorkshire or Lancashire and was sent to Birmingham to have my Uncle. Very sad to think she stayed in the Midlands knowing that her son was being brough up by another family. |

Aviegal, I'm going to look more into your information, even though I'm going off track slightly. My adopted Uncle lived with my great grandparents in Winson Green, a stones throw from Sparkhill. |

Well, it must have been very distressing for her, obviously, but she did go on to make a life for herself and had 2 daughters, so not a totally sad story in the end. |
