Edward Report 7 Apr 2013 19:09

Mary (A Windebank (Bn 1876 )married in 1894 at Woolwich, George W Stevens they both appear in the 1901/1911 census at Plumstead, she gives her place of birth as either Boston, or Plumstead depending on which census you look at.. On the marriage certificate, her father is William Windebank a Fisherman. However all effort to find any record of Mary or her father before her marriage have failed.

There is a Mary A Windebank in the 1881 census, but wrong age, wrong father.

Any surgestions welcomed

On the marriage record Mary Ann is shown as age 20, so could be c1874.

Witnesses were a Walter Frederick Horne and Harriet Horne - are they family members?

This is possibly the marriage of Walter Frederick and Harriet :

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page

so it looks as though Harriet is related to George W. Stevens

Could she have been illegitimate, and lied about her father's name on the marriage certificate??

That is very common.
